Weekend #4 Recap: Penalties For Palardy & Bahr; Tournament Window Extended Until 5/29

The race at the Mobil Classic tightened up this weekend as several players made their long-awaited tournament debuts, shaking up the middle of the leaderboard and adding plenty of intrigue heading into the final stretch of the event. Casey Rutkey remains firmly in control at 5-under net, but with a large group now officially in the clubhouse, the pressure is beginning to build.

Nate Peacock made the biggest move among the weekend entrants, carding a 75 net (+3) to climb into fifth place at +3 overall. Brandon Bahr followed closely behind after posting a 76 net (+4), though his round came with some controversy. Bahr was assessed a one-stroke penalty after failing to declare his round at least four hours prior to his tee time, a costly mistake that pushed him to +4 for the tournament and sixth place entering the final week.

Jake Cleary and AJ Pearl also entered the mix this weekend, with Cleary firing a 77 net (+5) to take seventh while Pearl matched the gross score of 92 but settled for a 77 net (+7), placing eighth. Christian Benzing and Ryan Grimaldi remain just ahead of that group on the leaderboard, but the middle of the pack is now tightly contested with only a few strokes separating multiple players.

Further down the board, Colin Ford and Reed Oettinger officially posted scores for the event. Ford carded an 82 net (+10) to move into a tie for 10th, while Oettinger struggled to an 84 net (+12) and currently sits 12th. Sean McKenzie followed with an 85 net (+13), placing 13th entering the closing stages of the tournament.

Mike Remley rounded out the weekend action with a 94 net (+22), though the rookie still collected valuable points toward the season standings.

Attention now turns to Matt Palardy, who will close out the field this Friday, May 29, at The Tradition Golf Club. Due to the tournament window being extended to accommodate his round, Palardy will receive a two-stroke penalty before teeing it up. He currently sits in 16th place with seven points already secured, but a strong finish could still shake up the lower half of the standings before the Mobil Classic becomes official.
