CGA Tour — Mobil Classic (2026)
Weekend Recap 5/10/26: Rutkey’s Record Round; 13 Still To Play
The second weekend of the Mobil Classic is officially in the books — and with only three of sixteen players having posted tournament rounds so far, the pressure is beginning to build across the CGA Tour.
Saturday morning at Fort Mill Golf Club, Jackson Lathrop and rookie Kyle Monroe put together two strong rounds that immediately shook up the early leaderboard.
Lathrop carded a net even-par round powered by one of the best front nines seen so far this season. Things started with instant electricity on Hole 1, where Jackson chipped in for a birdie that translated to a net eagle. From there, he stayed aggressive with net birdies on 3 and 6 before closing the front with a bogey on 9.
The back nine was a rollercoaster. Lathrop answered mistakes with clutch scoring, posting net birdies on 11, 12, and 16 while battling through net bogeys on 10 and 14 and costly net double bogeys on 13 and 17. Even with the turbulence, Jackson managed to grind out an even-par finish and firmly position himself near the top of the Mobil Classic standings heading into the final two weekends.
Monroe quietly impressed all morning in one of the steadiest rounds of the weekend. The rookie finished at net +2 and was remarkably consistent outside of two damaging net double bogeys on 12 and 16. Kyle showed serious scoring ability with net birdies on 6, 7, 9, and 13 while limiting mistakes elsewhere, adding another strong performance to an already encouraging rookie campaign.
But by Sunday evening, the entire Tour was talking about one man: rookie Casey Rutkey.
Playing at Umstead Pines on Sunday, Rutkey delivered the breakthrough round of his golfing career — firing a personal-best gross 87, the first sub-90 round of his life.
The historic day translated to a stunning net -5, officially the second-lowest net score ever recorded in CGA Tour history, trailing only Noah Alviti’s legendary net -8 at the 2024 Mobil Classic.
Casey’s card was loaded with scoring:
Net birdies on 2, 5, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, and 18.
Outside of a net double bogey on 8 and net bogeys on 1 and 14, Rutkey looked completely locked in from start to finish. The rookie showed poise, confidence, and the kind of scoring potential that instantly changes the complexion of the Mobil Classic field.
Now, with two of the four Mobil Classic weekends complete, only three players have officially posted scores — leaving thirteen still searching for their opening round before time starts becoming a real factor.
Three rounds posted.
Two rookies making statements.
One historic performance.
And a whole lot of pressure building for the rest of the field.
